markup is a Markdown previewer application that provides:

  • Beautiful rendering of Markdown documents with local processing
  • Advanced Markdown support including LaTeX equations, Mermaid diagrams, and PlantUML charts
  • Syntax highlighting for 15+ programming languages
  • PDF export functionality for rendered Markdown content
  • Customizable fonts, themes, and styling options
  • Premium features with enhanced functionality
  • Dark mode and elegant typography

Important Service Characteristics:

  • No account creation required - the application works immediately
  • All Markdown processing is performed locally on your device
  • Your content is never transmitted to external servers

3. Application Usage (No Account Required)

3.1 Direct Access

Our Service does not require account creation or registration. You can:

  • Use the application immediately upon accessing it
  • Store preferences and settings locally on your device
  • Access premium features through direct purchase

3.2 Premium Feature Management

Since no accounts are maintained, premium features are managed through:

  • Device identification or browser fingerprinting technology
  • Secure verification of purchase status without storing personal information
  • Local storage of premium feature access on your device

3.3 User Responsibility

Since no accounts are maintained, you are responsible for:

  • Managing your own settings and preferences
  • Maintaining your own copies of Markdown documents
  • Keeping purchase receipts for potential support issues

4. Acceptable Use

4.1 Permitted Use

You may use our Service for lawful purposes only, including:

  • Previewing and rendering Markdown documents
  • Creating documentation and technical content
  • Educational and professional purposes
  • Personal projects and content creation

4.2 Prohibited Activities

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Upload or process content that violates intellectual property rights
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
  • Use automated tools to access the Service without permission
  • Upload malicious code, viruses, or harmful content
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations

5. Content Processing and Privacy

5.1 Local Processing Commitment

Data Privacy Guarantee:

  • Your Markdown documents are processed exclusively on your local device
  • We do not transmit, store, or access your Markdown content on our servers (with one exception noted below)
  • Content is used solely for preview rendering and PDF export functionality
  • Your documents remain completely private and under your control

PlantUML Processing Exception:

  • PlantUML diagram rendering requires network processing
  • PlantUML code blocks may be sent to:
    • PlantUML’s official demo server, and/or
    • Our managed rendering servers (when available)
  • We may change the rendering server(s) used without prior notice
  • Only the PlantUML portions of your documents are transmitted
  • Rendered diagrams are returned as images for display
  • We cannot guarantee data handling practices on third-party servers
  • No PlantUML content is stored or logged on our managed servers
  • This is a Premium-only feature

5.2 PDF Export Disclaimer

Our PDF export feature:

  • Renders Markdown content mechanically using automated algorithms
  • Strives to accurately reproduce your Markdown formatting and content
  • Does not guarantee perfect fidelity or accuracy of the exported PDF
  • May have limitations in rendering complex layouts, custom HTML, or certain Markdown extensions
  • Should be reviewed by users before use in professional or critical applications
  • Is provided “as is” without warranty of specific formatting outcomes

5.3 Your Content Ownership

You retain complete ownership and control of:

  • All Markdown documents you process through our Service
  • Any PDF exports generated from your content
  • All intellectual property rights in your original content

5.4 Our Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, features, and underlying technology, is owned by Progressive Works, Inc. and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not:

  • Copy, modify, or distribute our proprietary technology
  • Use our trademarks or branding without permission
  • Create derivative works based on our Service

5.5 Third-Party Content

Our Service may include third-party libraries, fonts, or components. Use of such content is subject to their respective licenses and terms.

5.6 File Management

  • Users can open existing .md and .markdown files from their devices
  • All files remain stored locally on the user’s device
  • No cloud synchronization is provided by the Service
  • Users are responsible for backing up their own files
  • The Service does not have access to your file system beyond files you explicitly choose to open

6. Premium Features and Subscriptions

6.1 Premium Subscriptions

We offer premium subscriptions that provide enhanced features including:

  • Advanced rendering capabilities

6.2 Payment Terms

  • Subscription fees are charged in advance
  • Payments are processed through third-party payment providers

  • Prices are displayed in your local currency within the app
  • Final pricing is determined by your app store region

6.3 Purchase and Access

Since no accounts are required:

  • Premium features are unlocked through direct purchase and device verification
  • Access is managed through secure device identification technology
  • Clearing browser data or switching devices may require purchase verification
  • We recommend keeping purchase receipts for reference and support

6.4 Purchase Restoration

To restore purchases on a new device:

  • Download markup from the app store on your new device
  • Use the “Restore Purchases” option in the app settings
  • Your purchases are tied to your app store account (Google Play or Apple ID)
  • If you experience issues with restoration, contact our support team with your purchase receipt

7. Privacy and Analytics

Your privacy is important to us. Our collection and use of your information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Third-Party Services:

  • We use PostHog for anonymous usage analytics on our website and application
  • We use Sentry for error detection and application debugging
  • These services help us improve functionality and user experience
  • Your Markdown content is never shared with these or any other third-party services

8. Service Availability

8.1 Uptime and Performance

While we strive to maintain high availability, we do not guarantee that our Service will be:

  • Available 100% of the time
  • Free from interruptions or errors
  • Compatible with all devices or browsers

8.2 Maintenance and Updates

We may perform scheduled maintenance or updates that may temporarily affect Service availability. We will provide reasonable notice when possible.

9. Limitation of Liability

9.1 Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

9.2 Limitation of Damages

IN NO EVENT SHALL PROGRESSIVE WORKS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, REVENUE, OR PROFITS, ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

9.3 Maximum Liability

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Progressive Works, Inc., its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising out of:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights
  • Any content you upload or process through the Service

11. Termination

11.1 Termination by You

Since no accounts are maintained, you may stop using the Service at any time by:

  • Closing the application
  • Clearing your browser data to remove local settings
  • Uninstalling the application (if applicable)

11.2 Termination by Us

We may restrict access to our Service if you:

  • Violate these Terms
  • Engage in prohibited activities
  • Pose a security risk to our Service
  • Abuse our systems or attempt unauthorized access

11.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination:

  • Your access to the Service will cease
  • Local settings and preferences will remain on your device
  • No data is stored on our servers to be deleted
  • Surviving provisions of these Terms will remain in effect

14.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms without restriction.
